Stepping Hill Hospital staff are looking after their own health, as well as others, with an app-based fitness programme.
They are taking part in Life Leisure’s ‘actilife’ programme, which uses wearable fitness trackers, an online interactive programme and remote coaching to help people become more active and manage their weight better. Actilife is designed for complete beginners as well as experienced exercisers. The hospital`s office-based audit team has totalling over 17 million steps since they started in January, an average of 1.89 million per member.
Staff taking part in the actilife programme have spent time walking round the hospital more and using stairs instead of lifts. Staff at Stockport Council and NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group are also taking part in the programme.
Clinical audit manager Joanna Rodgers said, “We’re all about improving people’s health and so it’s important we keep ourselves healthy too, particularly staff who would otherwise spend a lot of time in the office. `Actilife has been a really useful way to keep us fit and active. By competing with each other on our step totals we`ve had a lot of fun too.”
