The Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport paid a visit Stockport’s respite home for disabled children and their families.
Swanbourne Gardens is a respite centre which gives children and their families with much needed breaks. It provides a homely and relaxing environment for youngsters with severe learning disabilities and complex additional health needs.
Run by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, it was set up 15 years ago and is the only NHS facility of its kind in the North West. More like a home than a hospital, it is hugely popular with its users and their families.
The Mayor Councillor Chris Gordon and Mayoress Dr Margaret Gordon were given a tour of facilities by staff and met one of the young service users and their family. They have been active in fundraising to support the facility and are keen to urge others to do so as well.
Mayor Chris Gordon said “It’s so important that children with complex conditions receive the support of excellent facilities like this. It was a pleasure to meet the staff and young people at Swanbourne Gardens, and I hope I can raise awareness so more people can donate to support them, and help them get the support they deserve.”
