As Stepping Hill Hospital and Stockport community services will soon be celebrating their 70th birthday as part of the NHS, some of those born at the hospital have been celebrating their 70th year too.
Rob Rebbitt was born at Stepping Hill Hospital in the March of 1948, a few months before the NHS came into being. Rob has lived in Reddish in Stockport for most of his life, and three of his four children, and all his five grandchildren, were born at Stepping Hill.
Staff at Stepping Hill Hospital came to the rescue twice for Rob. In 2002 he had a serious accident in his job as a foreman at a builders yard. His hand had become trapped between a stacker truck and a lorry door, and was very nearly severed off.
Thankfully surgeons were able to save and repair his hand, and it still works as good as new.
Three years later Rob had a heart attack before being rushed to Stepping Hill Hospital’s A&E again – this time saving his life. Rob is fit and well in his 70th year and thankful for the care he’s received.
Rob says “I cannot commend the staff enough for the treatment I have received from Stepping Hill Hospital. Thanks to them I still have full use of my hand, and without the care when I had my heart attack I maybe would not have been here to celebrate both my birthday and their birthday. Many happy returns to us both!”
