Patients at Stepping Hill Hospital’s short stay unit for older people have had musical medicine from a church choir.
The Apostolic Faith Choir which includes violinists as well as singers, performed a selection of songs to the delight of patients, visitors and staff.
The choir visit is the latest in a series of entertainment events for patients. The specialist ward is designed to give more support to patients aged 70 and over, who may have suffered from problems such as falls or chest infections.
Each day a new ‘frailty co-ordinator’ identifies patients from elsewhere in the hospital, including A&E, who are suitable to be cared for on the unit. Around 30 patients use the ward every week.
Emma Rogers, Matron for Patient Experience says “The short stay team are terrific at finding innovative ways to make their patients’ stay more enjoyable, and the Apostolic Choir really did a great job of lifting everyone’s spirits.”
