Two Stockport health teams are finalists in the national Student Nursing Times Awards for their top quality training support.
The Cheadle Hulme district nurse team has been shortlisted for the ‘Student Placement of the Year – Community’ category, while the Stepping Hill Hospital’s emergency department (A&E) team are up for the title of ‘Student Placement of the Year- Hospital’.
The district nurse team was singled out for providing a very supportive environment for student nurses, with several students saying this was the best of many placements they had experienced. As well as professional encouragement, the team provided emotional help too - with one student praising the support she received during a relative’s illness, and another in being able to work around her parental responsibilities.
The A&E team was commended for providing strong support in an extremely busy and, at times, traumatic environment. They were applauded for a culture which captures bright ideas from all members of staff.
Alison Lynch, Chief Nurse and Director of Quality Governance at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Stepping Hill Hospital and community health services, said, “Our nursing teams see it as a rewarding privilege and professional responsibility to pass on their knowledge and skills and help nursing students translate theory into practice. It is therefore fantastic to see this recognised by the Student Nursing Times Awards and we are very proud of them.”
